PURPOSE:To allow highly accurate recognition of lane sectioning line even if the pavement is covered by a shade to lower the level of image signal by detecting a maximum value of the image signal in the horizontal direction at a position where the lane sectioning line must be detected. CONSTITUTION:The lane sectioning line recognition system comprises an image sensor 2 for imaging the front view of a vehicle, a memory 4 for storing image signals outputted from the image sensor 2, means 50 for processing each image signal stored in the memory 4 representative of the horizontal direction of pavement and storing a maximum level of the image signal and means 51 for detecting the position of lane sectioning line on the pavement. |
