PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin whitening cosmetic which not only inhibits the production of melanin caused by the lesion due to ultraviolet rays but also promotes the excretion of melanin pigment and particularly exerts excellent skin whitening effect. SOLUTION: This skin whitening cosmetic contains both an extract from the fruit of Chinese name 'HUOASHI' (firethorn) of one kind belonging to the genus Pyracantha of the family Rosaceae and N-methyl-L-serine. The active ingredient contained in the Chinese herbal medicine 'CHIHYANSU' of the fruit of Chinese name 'HUOASHI' used on this invention is extracted with water, a lower alcohol, e.g. methanol, ethanol, propanol or the like, or their mixture. The active ingredient is preferably blended in a proportion of 0.0001-5 wt.% based on the whole weight of the cosmetic in terms of powder containing in the extract, but the compound amount is not restricted to the above proportion. N-Methyl-L-serine used on this invention is a widely known compound. It is preferably blended in a proportion of 0.001-3 wt.% based on the whole weight of the cosmetic, but the compound amount is not restricted to the above proportion. |
