<p>A sodium channel blocking agent is used for the treatment of an inflammatory neurological disorder of the central or peripheral nervous system especially for preventing axonal or neuronal damage. The blocking agent is administered orally or systemically, e.g. by the oral, intravenous or intramuscular route. The blocking agent may be lignocaine or mexiletine, the dosage used being in the range 100-1000 mg/day. A nitric oxide synthase inhibitor is also administered, to reduce endogenous nitric oxide production.</p> |
