PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst used in the production of acrylic acid by the vapor phase catalytic oxidation of propane and enabling the high yield production of the acrylic acid. SOLUTION: This catalyst for the production of acrylic acid comprises a metal oxide in which the ratio of metal elements is represented by formula MoVi Sbj Ak [where A is Nb or Ta, (i) and (j) are each 0.01-1.5, 0.3<=j/i<=1 and (k) is 0.001-3.0]. In the powder X-ray diffraction diagram of the metal oxide, diffraction rays are present at the positions of 22.1 deg., 22.3 deg., 28.2 deg. and 36.2 deg. in 2θ. When the diffraction ray intensity at 28.2 deg. is considered to be 100, the intensity at 22.1 deg. is 10-120. |
