PURPOSE: To sharply improve the safety of surgery by inserting a spalling vertical-shaft probe having a hollow cutting chip into a lens, vibrating the chip with a high-audio frequency or a ultra-audio frequency, and spalling the continuous layer of a lens nucleus in fragments. CONSTITUTION: A small circular incision section 44 is formed near the edge of the cornea 46 of an eye 48, and a part of the lens vesicle 50 of a lens 52 is removed. The probe tip section 16 of a device is inserted into an inner cortical substance through the opening of the lens vesicle 50 from the incision section 44 into contact with a hard lens nucleus. When a surgeon brings the device into contact with the lens nucleus in the vertical shaft direction, a chip incises the continuous layer of the lens nucleus to cross it in the lateral direction, the continuous layer of the hard lens nucleus is broken fragmentarily or partially, and the fragments are sucked from a surgery portion by a liquid sucked when vacuum is applied to a chip hollow. After the cortical substance around the lens nucleus is sucked, a substitute for the lens is inserted into the eye 48. |
