A toothed wheel (11) is integral with the reel body (1) and a toothed ring (10) is integral with the reel (3). A locking lever (22), housed inside the reel drum (2) in an internal guide housing (23), is moved radially outwards by a return spring (29) and inwards by pressure on a head (28). The locking lever has teeth (24,25) which engage the toothed wheel and the toothed ring to lock the rotation of the reel drum and reel. A lug (30) slides in a slot (32) on the bail arm (13). When the lug is at the first end of the slot it pushes back the head and the locking lever to cause locking when the bail arm is in the casting position. When the lug is at the second end of the slot it remains separated from the head and prevents locking in every position of the bail arm.
