The invention relates to a device for converting, in particular, mechanical energy which is available in water waves into electric energy. The invention comprises a device for converting the energy of the waves into a rotational motion, and comprises a dynamo device for converting the rotational energy into electric energy. In order to be able to exploit the kinetic energy of surface waves, the device for converting the energy of the waves into rotational energy contains a reciprocally mounted floating body device. The floating device floats on the surface of the water and interacts with a helical screw-type mandrel device whose one end drives the dynamo device.
