The roll stand incorporates a pair of bearing blocks (14U, 14L) for upper and lower support rolls (11U, 12U; 11L, 12L), a pair of bearing blocks (15U, 15L) for the upper and lower intermediate rolls (9U, 10U; 9L, 10L), and a pair of bearing blocks (16U, 16L) for the upper and lower working rolls (8U, 8L). It further incorporates means for driving and axial displacement of at least the intermediate rolls, as well as means for bending the intermediate and working rolls. An Independent claim is also included for a rolling process in which a strip is rolled in combination with axial displacement of the intermediate rolls in such a way that bending forces are applied to the intermediate and working rolls.
