<p>A hydraulic prosthetic joint 10 having a silicone-based hydraulic agent with high viscosity and a viscoelastic response so that the joint is self-aligning and stable with satisfactory movement control. The joint 10 may be constructed in pivotal configuration for use as, for example, an ankle joint 10, in which different angles of plantarflexion and dorsiflexion are provided and the hydraulic flow is modified to balance the plantarflexion and the dorsiflexion moments.
