RADIAL TIRE CONTAINING STRAND OF NON-TWISTED STEEL FILAMENT IN CARCASS PLY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of a tire without sacrificing strength. SOLUTION: A pneumatic radial tire 10 wherein carcass ply contains a rubberized layer of a steel strand of a non-twisted filament comprises a pair of annular beads 14 and 16 axially separated from each other with a distance therebetween; a layer of steel strands such that 4-50 steel strands per inch are aligned when measurement is effected in the peripheral direction of a tire in a position where a tire width is maximum; and at least one carcass ply 12 of a steel strand extending between beads. Each of the strands of this carcass ply 12 has 2-12 filaments; the diameter of each filament is 0.05-0.4 mm; the tensile strength of each filament is at least (3000 MPa-(2000×D))×95% (D is a filament diameter in mm); and the filaments in each strand are not twisted.
