PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a substance capable of eliminating the damage attributable to a heavy metal without disturbing the absorption of trace elements, which are essential to a plant, by a plant in order to solve a problem that although chitosan has chelate forming activity and is effective for removing a heavy metal, at the same time it is easily assumed that chitosan absorbs such trace elements. SOLUTION: A decomposition product obtained by irradiating chitosan of an aqueous solution or of powder, which is a glucosamine polymer obtained from a chitinous substance of a polysaccharide, with radial rays consisting ofγ-rays or electron rays of 1-2000 kGy, is used as a suppressing agent for heavy metal damage of a plant.
