The invention concerns a method for making insoluble mu sulphur which consists in irradiating with light radiation of wavelength more than 320 nm an alpha sulphur solution in an inert and transparent solvent at said wavelenghts, then adding to the resulting mu sulphur suspension a Lewis acid and, optionally, a Lewis base, and separating from the liquid the resulting mu sulphur agglomerates.
