A rotor and stator pumping apparatus includes a stator having non-deformable internal lobes. A rotor is provided having external lobes. The external lobes on the rotor have a deformable covering. The deformable covering on the external lobes of the rotor deform to maintain a sealing engagement with the internal lobes of the stator as the rotor rotates. The rotor and stator pumping apparatus tackles the problem of stator wear, by switching the roles of the rotor and the stator. This simplifies servicing as the rotor can be pulled out and replaced on site in a matter of minutes.
