The invention relates to a bell-shaped shield (1) for use in a household appliance, especially a hand-held blender or mixer. The inner wall (7) of the shield (1) forms a space (6) which is accessible from below via an opening (12) through which the food (36) is supplied or removed. In this space (6) a knife-like tool (8) can be made to rotate by a drive shaft (3) in such a way that food (36) is seized, chopped and/or mixed by said tool. On its circumference the surface of the inner wall (7) presents separate wall sections (51) which are directed outwards and form open spaces (37). The wall sections (51) are destined primarily for the diversion, chopping and improved mixing of food (36) while the open spaces (37) are used for receiving and discharging the food. This configuration allows for the more intensive and thorough mixing and chopping of food (36) in a very short space of time.
