PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a double-layer coating film with superb light interference and a reduced amount of costly multilayer interferential flake pigment by applying a deep color coating of specific lightness, then compounding a specific percentage of multilayer interferential flake pigment to a resin solid content, and overlaying it in at least a specific film thickness with a clear coating coverage. SOLUTION: A topcoat coating A for forming a deep color coating film of at least 20 lightness is applied. Further, a topcoat coating B is overlaid thereon which forms a light inferential coating film containing 0.1-2 pts.wt. of multilayer interferential flake pigment per 100 pts.wt. of resin solid content, and having 40μm or more of primary coat concealing film thickness. Further, a clear coat C for forming a transparent coating film is applied on the surface of the coating B. The topcoat B does not conceal the color tone of the coating A of the lower layer. Through visual observation of the double-layer coating film obtained by overlaying, the multilayer interferential flake pigment contained in the coating B film of the upper layer performs a light interference efficiently, even if the content is slight, because the coating A film of the lower layer is of a deep color. Thus it is possible to develop the multicolor effect of this pigment sufficiently.
