In the steered-beam mode, the e.g. halogen light source (10) and reflector (20) swivel about a vertical axis as the steering wheel is turned. For fog-light duty, the beam, on a different, fixed alignment is optically modified by the front-glass zone traversed (42). The reflector central zone and modified wing sections produce a beam with a horizontal top cutoff. Its alignment with respect to the vehicle axis (AL) varies with steering angle between e.g. 10 and 40 degrees, remaining on the former value when the steering is on the opposite lock and always passing through the smooth zone (41) of the front-glass (40). The alternative, fixed, alignment for fog-light duty is e.g. 20 degrees to the other side of the vehicle axis, the beam passing through a front-glass zone (42) with internal surface ribbing which reduces central spot intensity and spreads the beam horizontally. Variants with slightly different optical arrangements are described.
