A reservoir tube, disposed around a working chamber (42) formed pressure tube (30), forms a reservoir chamber between the two tubes. A base valve assembly (40) regulates the flow of damping fluid between the two chambers and has a pressure responsive valve normally closed and an acceleration responsive valve biased into the closed position. A piston (32) divides the working chamber into upper and lower chambers (44, 46) with the valve assembly between the lower chamber and reservoir chamber. An Independent claim is included for a base valve assembly for a damper.
