PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel, temporarily adhesive, aqueous coating composition, which can be easily spread over an object to provide a coating layer resistant to heat, soluble in water, and having a surface protective or masking function. SOLUTION: This temporarily adhesive, aqueous coating composition contains, in an aqueous medium, a polyolefin oxide and 10 to 200 pts.wt. of at least one type of water-soluble vinyl polymer selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl pyrrolidone and polyvinyl alcohol per 100 pts.wt. of the polyolefin oxide. This composition may be incorporated with 10 to 500 pts. of a filler, 20μm or less in particle size, per 100 pts.wt. of total quantity of the polyolefin oxide and water-soluble vinyl polymer.
