A pager apparatus comprises a decoder section (3) for receiving a signal and decoding the received signal, a storage (5) for storing data from the decoder section (3), an output section (10) for informing the user that the decoder section (3) has received the signal, a keyboard section (7) operated by the user, and a control section (4) that allows the output section (10) to provide an output for informing the user of the arrival of a new signal while the user uses the keyboard section for input under the condition in which the output section (10) is set to refrain from informing the user.
