<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering assembly for changing the direction of a steerable wheel of a vehicle in accordance with the turning of a steering wheel including a pinion. SOLUTION: In an electric steering system, a rack portion 34 and a male screw portion 38 are provided, a ball nut is extended around the male screw portion, a polurality of balls are mounted between a female screw of the ball nut and the male screw of the steering member for transmitting the power, and an electric motor 50 includes a rotor 132 and a stator 70 drivably connected to the ball nut. When the stator is energized, the rotor is rotated, and the ball nut is rotated. The steering assembly comprises a one-component type molded plastic member 60 having a first axial portion 62 mounted adjacent to the pinion, a second axial portion 66 surrounding and supporting a stator core 72 and a stator winding 82, and a third axial portion 110 supporting the ball nut so that it is rotated with the rotor.</p> |
