PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce phosphorus concn. in stainless steel. SOLUTION: Molten calcium-calcium fluoride base flux containing high concn. of the calcium is made to exist between floated-molten stainless molten metal and a water-cooling crucible by using a cold crucible type floating melting apparatus and phosphorus existing as an impurity in the stainless steel is transferred into the flux.
