The closing mechanism is particularly intended for the door or cover (2) of a pressure vessel (1) such as a sludge door for a lifter installation. The closing means comprise at least one cam face (3) provided on the door, which is engaged by an arm (6, 4) pivoted (5) to the vessel. The pivot axes of door and arm may be parallel. The arm may consist of two swivel arms pivoted on either side of the vessel and connected by a bracket which engages the cam. The bracket may carry one or more rollers (4) to engage the cam. The arm may be swivelled by a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder.
