The extremely thin metal layer (2) normally attached to a cylinder head gasket (1) is constantly in danger of being deformed during the coating process. Even the weight of the coating material can lead to a change in the required shape. To avoid this deformation the new design of metal layer for a cylinder head gasket is equipped with a crease or longitudinal indentation (7) surrounding its edges. The groove increases the stability of the metal sheet substantially.
