A method for waste treatment utilizing a plurality of treating tanks and aeration tanks which are equipped with a substrate for microorganisms, which can significantly reduce the amount of excess sludge and can be used for treating a high concentration waste water without diluting it, and an apparatus for use in the method. A sludge generated during a treating step is returned to any appropriate treating tank for feed water and, at the same time, is given a satisfactory nutrient, by adding a nutrient source in appropriate intervals. In particular, when a high concentration waste water is treated, a pre-treatment means such as a solid-liquid separation tank and a sludge treatment tank equipped with a substrate for microorganisms and an aeration apparatus are provided additionally. |
