The charging air passes through a charging air compressor and a cooler, and then to an after cooler. This has a heat exchanger and uses specially supplied air as cooling medium. The air is compressed in a separate cooling air compressor, cooled in a separate air cooler, and relieved pref. adiabatically to ambient pressure in a separate diffuser. It then passes through the heat exchanger before being discharged into the ambient air.
