A device for mixing paint in its can (11) comprises a lid which fits on to the can and carries a rotating assembly comprising a shaft (13) which extends down into the can and carries a paddle (15), the lower end of the assembly being urged axially towards the floor (17) of the can by the rotation of the paddle but prevented from direct contact therewith by a freely rotatable member (31) with at least three projections (39) contacting the floor.
