PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain hemagglutinin I gene which is a new type lectin gene, useful for research on the effects of virus, cancer cells, lymphocyte or the like to several cells, and elucidation, diagnosis, therapy and the like of cancer which is a disease related by these, the state of a disease corresponding to virus. SOLUTION: Hemagglutinin I gene includes the total or a part of the base sequence of the formula, or hybridized with the base sequence of the formula in a stringent condition and a base sequence coding the protein having hemagglutination activity. The gene is obtained by preparing a cDNA library from Myxomycetes mycetozoan (Physarum polycephalum), selecting desired clone by a proper probe or antibody specific to the gene of this invention. The hemagglutinin I protein obtained from the gene by genetic engineering, recognizes specific sugar chain structure and bonds with it. |
