<p>The present invention is a method to produce an unsaturated carboxlylic acid with includes the steps of: providing an epoxy compound; contacting the epoxy compoud with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a catalyst system comprising tin and cobalt under conditions effective for carbonylation of the epoxy; and recovering an α-β unsaturated carboxylic acid product. The preferred epoxy is ethylene oxide which is reacted to acrylic acid by the method of the present invention.</p> |
