Capacitive sensor for detecting persons

The sensor has capacitor plates (1a,b,c,2) with a control and evaluation circuit (7), which forms a signal indicative of changes in capacitance. At least one of the capacitor plates is arranged on the floor. Several separately driven capacitor plates may be arranged on the floor, e.g. covering the width of a human foot. A method of evaluating the output of a capacitive sensor is also claimed.
