<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter, with which the utilization rate of light is made more advantageous, and a color image display device utilizing the filter concerning the projection color image display device of a reflection system which uses a deflected component for projection light. SOLUTION: The P deflected component related to respective three primary colors is diffracted/split by a color filter 3 using a transmission hologram and converged to pixel electrodes 13r, 13g and 13b on the side of a liquid crystal display(LCD) panel 1. The reflected light modulated and turned into S deflected component by a light modulation layer 16 on the side of the LCD panel 1 is made incident to the color filter 3 but the color filter 3 transmits the S deflected component and uses the transmitted light as projection light. On the color filter 3, the diffraction efficiency of the S deflected component can be suppressed into 3% or the like while diffracting the P deflected component with diffraction efficiency almost in 100% and since conditions are made remarkably advantageous rather than the diffraction of the S deflected component, the utilization rate of light can be improved.</p> |
