The invention relates to a suction system for supplying an internal combustion engine (18) with combustion air, especially in an automobile. The inventive suction system comprises at least one separate air collector (14) from which individual suction pipes (16) each lead to the air inlets of the respective cylinders of the internal combustion engine (18). Said suction pipes (16) are configured as ram tubes for the top speed areas of the internal combustion engine (18). At least one compensation flap (20) is located in the air collector (14). When closed, the compensation flap divides the air collector (14) to provide a long pre-suction section (12, 22) and when open, instead of a long pre-suction section (12, 22) provides an air collector (14) with an increased volume.
