Hydrophobic, microporous carriers comprising catalysts e.g. palladium enable rapid dehalogenation of hydrocarbon compounds e.g. perchloroethylene. The use of a carrier containing one or more catalytically active substances (I) is useful for dehalogenating hydrocarbons in the aqueous phase. (I) Are protected by a strongly hydrophobic coating.
