PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a needle coke production method by which puffing is reduced at the time of producing a graphite electrode and the production yield in the graphitization process and the characteristics of a product are improved irrespective of the kind of coal-based or petroleum-based raw material cokes. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the needle coke by the two-or more-stage calcination from the raw coke produced by the delayed coking process, the calcination temp. at the stages before the sticking of the following iron compound is set at 600 to 1000 deg.C, and the calcination temp. at the stages after the sticking of the iron compound is set at 1200 to 1600 deg.C. After the calcination at the stages before the sticking of the iron compound, a soln of a compound dissolving in water or an organic solvent such as iron sulfate, iron nitrate and iron carbonyl, which produces iron oxide due to reaction or decomposition by heating to 100 wt.% calcinated coke which is cooled to <100 deg.C, or a suspension of iron oxide powder is stuck by 0.1 to 15 wt.% to the surface incorporating the pores of the coke, and thereafter, the calcination at the stages after the sticking of the iron compound is performed. |
