Racemic metallocene compounds having a bis(4-naphthylcyclo pentadienyl) ligand which include compounds represented by general formula (1) and its enantiomer, wherein M represents titanium, zirconium or hafnium; Y represents carbon, silicon, germanium or tin; X<1> and X<2> independently represent each halogeno or C1-20 hydrocarbyl; and R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4>, R<5>, R<6>, R<7>, R<8> and R<9> independently represent each hydrogen, halogeno, C1-20 alkyl, C7-20 aralkyl, C6-20 aryl, substituted silyl having C1-20 hydrocarbyl, C1-20 alkoxy, C7-20 aralkyloxy or C6-20 aryloxy; provided that each group may be further halogenated.
