Agent (I) for transfer of nucleic acid (II) comprises: (a) at least one cationic hydrophilic region that can associate non-covalently with (II); and (b) at least one lipophilic region. These regions are linked by a spacer arm that also includes at least one disulfide bridge such that reduction causes: (a) partial degradation of the lipophilic region; or (b) splitting of (I) into two where this is symmetrical. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) composition containing (I) and at least one (II); and (2) preparation of the compositions of (1).
