PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polysaccharide-based thermosetting compsn. which can substitute for an HCHO-based crosslinking system having problems with toxicity, etc., by compounding a polycarboxylated polymer having carboxyl groups and a specified wt. average mol.wt. with a specified amt. of a polysaccharide having a specified wt. average mol.wt. SOLUTION: This compsn. comprises a polycarboxylated polymer (e.g. polyacrylic acid) having at least two carboxyl groups and a wt. average mol.wt. of 1,000 or higher, pref. 10,000 or higher and a polysaccharide (e.g. starch) having a wt. average mol.wt. of 10,000 or higher, pref. 100,000 or higher in an amt. effective to give a crosslinked compsn. The equivalent ratio of carboxyl groups of the polymer to hydroxyl groups of the polysaccharide is set at about 3:1 to about 1:50. |
