A 1,2-dioxetane derivative of formula (I) for use as a chemiluminescent substrate for immunoassays: wherein R1 is an alkyl group or an aryl group, R2 a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group, and R3 is a hydroxyl group, an alkoxyl group, aralkyloxy group, a phosphate salt group, or OSi(R4R5R6) in which R4, R5 and R6 are each independently an alkyl group which may be the same or different.
