PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the encoding of high compressibility at a pattern encoder. SOLUTION: A matching part 5 performs matching processing between an input pattern outputted from a pattern storage part 3 and a reference pattern outputted from a library part 4 and according to the discriminated result of a matching result discriminating part 6, a selector 9 or the like switches the input to an encoding part 10. Namely, when the matching result discriminating part 6 judges the absence of matching, an input pattern 7 is inputted to the encoding part 10 and the input pattern itself is encoded. When it is judged these patterns are matched, an error map 8 is inputted to the encoding part 10 and the error map is encoded. Thus, when matching is judged, only the difference from the reference pattern is encoded, the compressibility of the matched pattern is improved and as a result, the compressibility in the entire image is improved as well. |
