PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alumina molded product having a sharp pore distribution and excellent heat resistance, hardly transferred to anα-alumina phase, and containing silica in a small amount, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This silica-containing alumina molded product has the following characteristics: (1) a total pore volume of >=0.30 ml/g, (2) pores having diameters of >=100Åin a total pore volume of <=0.10 ml/g, (3) an average pore diameter of 35-80Å, (4) pores having average pore diameter (Å)±5Åin a total volume of >=60%, (5) a surface area of >=250 m<2> /g, (6) a phase transfer rate intoα-alumina in a value of <=20%.
