PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system where disadvantages in the case of using the system by pluralities of users are avoided with the system in which adverse effect by an operation mode set by other user is not given on a current user or data with high privacy are not known by others. SOLUTION: Whether or not a manufacturing number read from an IC card is the same as a manufacturing number read and stored at preceding use is discriminated (S140, S160). In the case that the manufacturing number is different, since it means that the user is changed, data having been stored in a data storage area in the steps S150, S170 are deleted. For example, when a message addressed to a preceding user is stored, the stored data are deleted. Moreover, the operation mode is reset in steps S155, S175. Thus, a current user does not receive the adverse effect by the operation mode set by other preceding user.
