PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a substrate for recording head arranged with a plurality of electrothermal conversion elements generating thermal energy for jetting ink in an ink jet recording head and a plurality of functional elements connected electrically with the electrothermal conversion elements on the same substrate in which the protective layer for the electrothermal conversion elements is made thin while decreasing the wiring resistance. SOLUTION: In a region arranged with electrothermal conversion elements 1-104 and a wiring section including common wiring 1-102 for a plurality of function elements 1-113 and selection electrode wiring 1-110, the plurality of function elements 1-113 are in a direction different from the arranging direction of the electrothermal conversion elements 1-104 connected, in the vicinity thereof, with the common wiring 1-102 formed essentially in a layer lower than the layer where the elements 1-104 are formed. The wiring part is made thin for the upper layer having no effect on the wiring resistance and made thick for the lower layer having direct effect on the protective layer.
