The invention relates to an actuating device for a gas-exchange valve in an internal combustion engine, comprising an electromagnetic actuator having an opening magnet and a closing magnet between which a movable armature is located which actuates the gas-exchange valve, valve springs for impinging upon the gas-exchange valve, and a device to compensate for play between the actuator and the cylinder head. To configure the actuating device in such a way that it functions reliably for a long service period the invention provides for a damper which acts between the cylinder head and the actuator.
