The pump effect of the piston in the crankcase, i.e. the active piston under side, acts indirectly via an impulse channel on the inlet system comprising a suction channel (8) and connecting inflow channel (6), without fresh gas being conducted through the crankcase. There is a check valve (9) in the suction channel at its cylinder-side end, which prevents back flow of the aspirated fresh gas into the suction channel. In addition to the inlet system with crankcase pump a charger is incorporated, series-connected to the inlet system with crankcase pump. The charger is parallel to the inlet system and delivers fresh gas via separate inlet channels and inlet slots and partly via the inlet system to the cylinder (series - parallel connection).
