The apparatus comprises an elongate main body 1 in which is housed, in a single position, a cylindrical plunger 2 with a head 18 which extends outside, for manual actuation of the plunger, the plunger 2 being associated with a retainer 3 which is fully positioned in a section of said plunger 2 and in correspondence with a section 9 of the main body 1, also having a toothed wheel 4 which can rotate and which, in combination with the displacement of the plunger 2 through actuation of the outer head 18, makes it possible to place the wire 23 under tension, which wire, emerging via one of the ends of the main body 1, the end opposite the toothed wheel 4, makes it possible to produce not only intertwined (braided) continuous ligatures but also continuous figure- of-eight ligatures and even individual ligatures. The apparatus applies especially to the production of ligatures in orthodontics and orthogenetic surgery. <IMAGE>
