The procedure, in which a projectile (1) is fired from a barrel (3), consists of including a dispersible inertia mass (5) inside the barrel (1) and forcing it backwards once it leaves the barrel. The density of the inertia mass can be increased by the inclusion of an active expanding mass (4) designed to expel the projectile. The inertia mass can be of a sublimable powdered product or a fluid, and can be enclosed in a capsule or in the cartridge case of the projectile. The use of an opaque inertia mass helps to reduce muzzle flash.
