Working unit for machine tool

The working unit for a machine tool comprises an outer body (2), a sleeve (3) accommodated in the body and in a position to slide relative to it along the working axis, devices (6-13) for the transport movement along the axis, a spindle (4) which can rotate in the sleeve and a drive device (30-34) for the rotation of the spindle. The drive device is accommodated in the sleeve and works on the spindle at a position which lies between its front and rear ends. The drive device of the spindle comprises an electric motor of the rotary type with a rotor which turns rigidly with the spindle and a stator which is integral with the sleeve.
