Sterilising surface of opening in flexible container for e.g. liquid foodstuffs during a filling process

Sterilising gas is supplied in a non-pressurised state as a mixture with a fluid carrier, e.g. water or air. A method for sterilising a surface involves the preparation of a fluid carrier, mixing this carrier with a non-pressurised sterilising gas and allowing the mixture to flow over the surface. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for filling flexible containers (13) under aseptic conditions in conjunction with the above sterilising method; and (b) an apparatus used to carry out this filling process.
