PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the contact between magnetic heads and a magnetic tape satisfactory by specifying the interval ratio between a drum window width and a head length when a distance from the end face of the preceding side of a first head to the end face of the following side of a second head is defined as the head length. SOLUTION: When the maximum regenerative output and the minimum regenerative output of the envelope waveform of output signals to be obtained when magnetic heads slide from the lower end to the upper end of a magnetic tape are respectively defined as Vmax and Vmin, in the case where the envelope waveform rate (Vmin/Vmax)×100 is >=88%, an error rate becomes <=5%. When a drum window width and a head length are respectively defined as W, L, the fall-in deformation to a drum window 4 of the magnetic tape is suppressed by making W<=1.28L and the friction of head top end shapes are suppressed and the envelope waveform rate in a preceding head 1 and a following head 2 becomes <=88%. Moreover, W and L are made to satisfy 1.15L<=W<=1.28L by considering so as to make a mounting defective rate of <=5%.
