PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch capable of miniturizing a and also improving a switching performance. SOLUTION: The optical switch is provided with an optical fiber array 1 with optical fiber aligning grooves 10 formed on the surface, which consist of optical fiber fixing grooves 1f for fixing tip parts of fixing side optical fibers Ef and optical fiber introducing grooves 1m for introducing tip parts of moving side optical fibers Fm and a transporting part 2 for transporting the tip parts of the moving side optical fibers Fm along the aligned direction of the optical fiber aligning grooves 10. The optical fiber fixing grooves 1f have the same groove pitch as the optical fiber introducing grooves 1m and the moving side optical fibers Fm are optically connected with the fixing side optical fibers Ff by selectively introducing the moving side optical fibers Fm into the optical fiber introducing grooves 1m. The switch is characterized so that an outer diameter of the fixing side optical fibers Ff is made smaller than that of the moving side optical fibers and the groove pitch is made smaller than the outer diameter of the moving side optical fiber Fm. |
