The invention relates to a convertible top (3) for a motor vehicle (1), especially a passenger vehicle, comprising a rod linkage (7) which is mounted in a pivoting manner on bearings (9) situated on the car-body side. The convertible top (3) can be moved by means of an actuating device (16) from a folded position in the rear forward into a locked position situated above the windscreen frame (5). To create a convertible top which on the one hand has sufficient spring travel during closure and on the other hand keeps the forces needed for closure at a low level, the invention provides that during closure the convertible top (3) is stopped by the actuating device (16) already above the locked position (E) in a predetermined position (F) and is supported in this position by means of at least one spring-loaded end-stop (17).
